Alaska 2006...
DAY 1/2 AT SEA: we were at sea heading for alaska, so we basically ate, went to shows, explored, layed out, and took pictures.
DAY 3: KETCHIKAN: it happened to be about 80 degrees which is rare for this town. we took a scenic hike in a rainforest with a naturalist. we were bused back to town, shopped for 2 hrs, then saw a lumberjack show in town.
DAY 4: JUNEAU: happy 4th of July to us. we never got to see a fireworks display, but we saw the Mendenhall glacier, and went whale watching. we saw a pod of orcas, humpback whales, sea otters, and tons of jumping fish.
DAY 5 SKAGWAY: once again, it was about 80 out. we went to a dog mushers camp where about 15 dogs pulled us on a mock sled. then we got to learn about the races (Iditarod and the Yukon) and held the puppies and saw the dogs who race
DAY 6 PRINCE RUPERT b.c.: this was our only cloudy day. we went to a native museum and had a tour, then was led to a long house where we experienced a native dance and tried dried seaweed right off the beach and had a mashed up berry which was very bitter.
DAY 7/8 AT SEA: we ate, watched shows, slept, watched movies, talked on the phone, and packed our bags. |
